Kashgar Prefecture, 141,600 kilometers in total area, lies between latitude 350 to 408 north and longitude 730 to 797 east in the southern part of Xinjiang. The city of Kashgar, a place of strategic importance in south Xinjiang, has an area of 15 square kilometers with an average elevation of 1289.5 meters. The city is located between latitude 395 to 295 north and longitude 756 to 764 east and lies 1,473 kilometers from the city of Urumqi

Kagilik County

Location
Located to the southwest of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, being 1,523 kilometers away from Urumqi city, on the outfall fan plain area of the Tiznap rivr, Ulughustang river and Kekyaus River, longitude 76°08′—78°31′E,latitude 35°28′—38°34′N.
It has Poskarn county, Yarkent county, and Tashkurgan county to the west, vast plain, Mekit county to the north, Taklamakan desert, Guma county of Hotan to the east, Karakurum Mt. and Kunlun Mt. to the south, and borders Pakistan, India and Kashmir.
The land looks like a crescent moon which is high in the south and low in the north, the longest point is 326 kilometers from south to north and 120 kilometers from east to west.

Origin
Kagilik County has a history of about 2,181 years. Since the beginning of the West Han Period (around 1,777 A.D.), the south of the county was "Xiye" state and "Zihe" state. In North Wei Dynasty, it belonged to Sdhule State, In Sui Dynasty, it was called Zhujubo state, in ang dynasty was Nan-chou.
In the 11th year of Guangxu emperor (1885 A.D.), Kagilik County was established and it was under the charge of After the People's Republic of China was founded, Kagilik County was under the charge of Yarkent prefecture. Since Yarkent prefecture was abolished in June 1956, it has been under the charge of Kashgar prefecture.

Administrative Division
It has jurisdiction over 3 village, 817 townships, 5 farms, 313 administrative villages, 1,252 agricultural production teams.

Population and Territory
In its total area of 30,000 square kilometers, the total population is 373,492, among them, rural population is 307,312, ethnic minorities 349,530, the non-agriculture population is 66,180, taking 17.72% of the total population.

Natural characteristics
Located to the north Kalakunlun Mt, on the southwest rim of Tarim Basin, on the outfall fan of Tiznap rivr, Uulughustang river and Kekyaus River, hilly area is 76.39%, arable land is 47,300 hectres.Its climate belongs to dry continental temperate zone, the annual mean temperature of the air is 11.3℃s, the annual precipitation is 54mm, and the frost-free period is 228 days.

Natural Resources
Agricultural products, mineral resources and water resources are abundant. Fruits are walnut, apricot. It is the home of fruits and melons and  is granted "County of Walnut". The south mountainous area have a large amount of gold, silver, coal, gas, petroleum, jade, iron, copper and marble. The annual surface runoff is 900,000,000 cubic meters, the underground water reserve is 140,000,000 cubic meters.
Woods amounts to 45,500 hectares, percentage of forest cover is 0.74%. Rare animals are bear, snow cock, swan, dzeren, yak. There are more than 237 kinds of exploitable medical ingredients such as herbal ephedrine, licorice, and honeysuckle,

People's Living Standards
The total output value was 833,640,000 Yuan RMB, total agriculture and industrial production value was 1,189,375,000 Yuan RMB in 2003, among them the industry total production value was 97,161,000 Yuan RMB, agriculture total production value was 1,092,214,000  Yuan RMB. The average urban resident's disposable income was 1520 Yuan RMB, income in cash was 12,858 Yuan RMB, the net income of farmers was 1,427 Yuan RMB.

Industry
There are 35 industry enterprises with fixed assets of 27,700,000 Yuan RMB, among which 6 have an annual production value of 5,000,000 Yuan RMB.

Agriculture
By the end of 2003, there were arable land of 710,700 mou, 1.9 mou per capita, the grain yield amounted to 217,193 tons, facilities agriculture 16,300 mou, 14,821 green houses of all sorts. Vegetable production base, apricot of 150,000 mou, pomegranate of 80,000 mou and walnut of 40,000 mou have been established.

Finance and Tax Income
In 2003, the county completed the public finance income 42,820,000 Yuan RMB, tax revenue 29,460,000 Yuan RMB. The financing institution is ready and complete to deal with come-and-go business from home and abroad. By the end of 2003, extra deposit amounted to more than 880,420,000 Yuan RMB.

Business and Investment
There are 2,282 business networks with a staff of 3,169 and completed the total volume of retail sales of social consumer goods 18,910 Yuan RMB and the total volume of 30654 Yuan RMB of the tertiary industry 21,183 Yuan RMB. In 2003, the overall investment drew in was 143,000,000 Yuan RMB.

Nonstate-owned enterprises
There were 4,757 registered nonstate-owned enterprises  with registered capital of 59,050,000 Yuan RMB and created a tax revenue of 10,80,000 Yuan RMB.

Transportation and Communication
Traffic is easy and quick, national highway 315, 219 run through the county, the overall mileage of public road is 2243 kilometers, every hundred square kilometers has public road 7.96 kilometers.
There are 14,021 SPC telephone customers, all of which can enjoy optical fibre communication;
the mobile telephone customer attained 15,500, every hundred persons has 7.9 telephones.

Urban and Rural Construction
City construction is ever increasing. The rebuilding area of old city is 4.2 square meters, and the newly built city area is 5.4 square meters.

Water Conservancy and Electric Power
Water resources is abundant. There are 10 reservoirs. River Tiznap, Ulughusitang and Kekyaustang run through the county. There are 2 small reservoirs with a annual generated electricity of 51,000,000 kwh.
Power lines spread densely and can live up to the basic demand of production and living.

Culture and Education
There is one public library, one house of culture, one archivess and one television station. There is one secondary technical school with 233 students; 27 middle schools with 30,450 students(26,857 are ethnic minorities) 147 primary schools with 72,078 students(67,990 ethnic minorities), 2 kindergartens with 440 students. There are 3986 teachers in all. In 2003, 46,40,000 Yuan RMB was invested in infrastructure construction, 188 students entered college in 2003, the admission rate amounted to 48.8%.

Hygiene
There are 32 medical treatment organizations with 598 medical workers (474 ethnic minorities), and 476 hospital beds, every 10 thousand people have 16.16 hospital beds, 16.16 doctors.

Popularity of Science and Technology
By the end of 2003, there are 5,266 technicians of all levels, 856 have got middle-level or above certificate respectively.

Environmental Protection and Green Belt
Drainage has live up to the national standards and there is no air and water pollution.The green belt is 810,000 square meters, taking 20% of the city proper. Since the implementing of returning farmland for forestry the farmland returned is 81,000 mou.

Social Welfare and Social Security
There are 17 welfare hospitals, with 63 senior citizens in them, one orphanage with 65 orphans, one welfare factory with 42 workers, a fixed assets of 978,000 Yuan RMB and annual production value of 49,000 Yuan RMB. The insurance business have had 62 kinds of life and property insurance items, made reparation payment of 822,000,000 Yuan RMB, the compensation rate is 73.01%.

Featured Industry
The county is rich in fruits, natural gas and mineral resources. Featured Industry are as follows: walnut, honeysuckle, yak meat processing, Mierdai jade exploiting, "Yetuo" series vinegar.

Natural Landscape and Human Landscape
There are Tanjianli Maosoleum, Zonglang Mazaar, Puolong Forest Park, Buterwenkul, Guosasi scenic spot, etc.
